Let’s face it, sometimes it’s hard to consider spending thousands of dollars on a dress that you’ll only wear once. Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely LOVE designer dresses and luxury wedding details. However, sometimes people just simply cannot spend the money. I took out a lot of loans (and I mean a LOT) in order to attend college. Luke and I were pretty much broke and fresh out of college when we got married and so there were plenty of things that I chose to downgrade on. While the wedding dress is one of the most “important” details of a wedding day (I mean, it is in pretty much every single photo) you don’t have to spend a fortune to find a beautiful one!

I went to numerous bridal shops and tried on dresses but just didn’t fall in love with any of them. Maybe it was my anxiety and feeling overwhelmed, but I actually enjoyed finding my dress online. The bridal shops kept handing me dresses that were outside of my budget or had things that I didn’t want in a dress (ex: I am very minimalist and they would hand me the most heavy-duty, glittery and pouffy dresses which I told them wasn’t my style haha). So, personally I felt a lot more at ease trying on dresses at home without strangers staring at me and people giving me their opinions.

Personal Recommendations

While there are numerous websites out there that sell discounted wedding dresses, the two services that I have personally used and recommend are Azazie and Lulus. Both sell beautiful wedding dresses and also high quality bridesmaid dresses! I ordered my wedding dress from Lulus and it was delivered within 2 weeks right to my house and had a great return policy allowing me to try on my dress without stress. Azazie takes a little longer on shipping, but they do allow for you to put in your custom measurements when ordering your dress. Here are some of my personal favorites:

I’ll start with the one I wore on my wedding day – this was back in 2018 and so there were a lot less options at the time. I bought the forver and always dress from Lulus. I loved the white lace at the top and the high necked detail. I also then brought it to a local seamstress and had her create me a custom detachable trail. The train ended up costing me more than the dress itself. It was super comfortable and I loved how simple it was!
