We woke up at 4:00 AM and hit the road for Silver Bay for Hannah and Ethan’s engagement session at Palisade head and Black Sand Beach. The rain was pouring, the roads were pitch black, and the weather forecast kept changing by the minute. We were scheduled to get there 30 minutes before sunrise and I remember telling Luke that these photos were going to be epic, rain or shine. We ended up arriving and the rain only got worse. So, we texted Hanna and Ethan and let them know that it might be worth pushing back a few hours. As sad as it was to not have the sunrise we had planned for, we ended up having a really fun morning. Luke and I went back down to Two Harbors to get some breakfast while we waited out the rain. We went to a sweet breakfast place called Judy’s Cafe – it was your classic small-town diner where everyone seems to know each other. I don’t know if I was just really hungry, but those hash browns were incredible.When we finished up our breakfast, we headed back up to Silver Bay. We got there a little early to scope out spots and Luke turned to me and asked “do you know what they look like?” referring to the couple. And I knew that Hanna was blonde, based on my communication with her. Then, a couple arrived and a blonde dressed in a cute dress with sunglasses got out of the car with her partner. He was dressed a little more casual, but still they looked ready for a session. We approached the couple confidently and introduced ourselves. They smiled awkwardly and said hi back. I then proceeded to suggest location ideas. The couple seemed confused, and the girl said “I’m not sure, I’m afraid of heights” I assured her we would stay on the trails and it would be safe (thinking to myself, why is this couple so weird?)…. then after a 5 minute exchange with that couple….. Hanna and Ethan arrived! LITERALLY we were talking with some strangers and they had no idea what was going on… When we realized that it was the wrong couple, Luke and I were both so relieved because that other couple (as sweet as they were) didn’t seem like they would be up for adventure. After taking a minute to laugh about that previous situation, we walked towards the shore and started getting some incredible shots. We went to the cliff’s edge, we hiked on some cool rocks, we then drove down to the beach where we got more photos and even jumped in the water! There may have been some rough starts to the day, and maybe it wasn’t quite the sunrise session we had imagined, but somehow it ended up being even better than we had planned. It was a true joy and we love when our couples are down to adventure with us. And who knows, maybe that other couple will one day find us and book us for their next big adventure?
